Rap Reinforces the Stereotypes Against African Americans
Stereotypes of Black people were derived from the White culture because since slavery, White people always thought they were superior to Blacks. The media is the source of and perpetuates the very same stereotypes African-Americans encounter in real life. Rap music/videos create deceiving interpretations causing Black people themselves, to believe they should emulate the behavior. Rap music promotes masculinity for men but in self-destructing ways. Black women are displayed in videos as "puppets", they do whatever a man tells them to do and are considered objects. Black people are constantly thought to be violent people, lower class, uneducated, lazy, and good for only being a product type beings. Black women are thought to be sex symbols, and property of men. Black men are made out to be gangsters, trouble makers, and promiscuous. Many rap videos do nothing more than reinforce these stereotypes against African-American people.
