What rap music use to be...
Rap use to be poetry of the youth who were disregarded as a result of their race and class status. Groups like Public Enemy rapped about standing against the oppressors. Songs like "Fight The Power", inspired Black people to take a stand for themselves. Rap was more revolutionary than what it is now. It wasn't until the late 1980's that rap became provocative and misogynistic music. Misogyny is the hatred of women, it causes them to become less valuable, and more of an object for men's use. Much of Rap music today ends up on the radio or T.V because it's glamored up, a nice beat is put to the lyrics, and people go "head over heels" for it, saying it's "something new".
